Frequently asked questions
What does “supporting the project” actually mean?
Supporting the project means helping sustain and develop the shared ecosystem behind Ecolinguist: the formats, tools, infrastructure, experimentation, and human work that make both the free content and the Academy possible.
It is not payment for a specific course or product.
What does support help pay for in practice?
Support contributes to:
- production and improvement of language shows
- development and maintenance of the Academy platform
- testing and refining new learning formats
- community infrastructure and moderation
- essential tools, services, and technical costs
- time spent on pedagogical design and adaptation
In short: the parts of the project that make meaningful language practice possible.
Who is an Ecolinguist Insider?
An Ecolinguist Insider is a supporter who helps sustain the Language Show and the wider learning community, and who takes part in the shared spaces inside Ecolinguist Academy — whether by supporting the project financially, contributing time and expertise, or being actively involved as a participant or collaborator.
Is this a donation to one person or to an organisation?
Ecolinguist is a founder-led project, and I’m the person behind it. I design the formats, run the platform, and take care of the infrastructure that keeps everything working. There’s no corporate backing or external funding — I invest a significant amount of my own time and money to keep the project running and developing. Your support helps keep Ecolinguist sustainable and allows me to continue working on it.
Will free YouTube content disappear if people don’t support the project?
No. Free content remains an essential part of Ecolinguist.
Support helps ensure that this content can continue without being driven by algorithms, clickbait, or ad-friendly shortcuts.
Can I support one specific language or language family?
You’re welcome to support the project with a particular language in mind, but I can’t guarantee when or how often that language will appear, as episodes depend on speaker availability and long coordination processes.
- If you mainly want to say thank you for a specific video or language you enjoyed, a one-time donation is often the best option.
- If you want to support learning in one specific language in a more direct way, joining a course focused on that language (where available) makes the most sense.
- Supporting the project as an Ecolinguist Insider is best suited to those who want to help the entire project grow across many languages and formats.
You can always change how you support the project as it evolves and as your own interests change.
Is supporting the project expected or required?
Not at all.
Support is entirely optional and meant for people who believe in the project’s values and want to help it grow. Many people benefit from Ecolinguist without ever supporting it financially—and that’s okay.
Why people choose to support it?
Support may be a good fit if you:
- value meaningful, conversation-based language learning
- appreciate the Language Show and public educational content
- care about cross-cultural connection and community learning
- want to support sustainable, human-centred education
Why does the project need support if there are paid programmes?
Paid programmes fund structured learning: prepared materials, guided Conversation Labs, and focused work with specific learner groups. They make it possible to offer depth and continuity for people who want a more intensive learning experience.
Support, on the other hand, helps sustain everything around that learning: the Language Show, public educational content, community formats, live experimentation, and the ongoing pedagogical work that connects all parts of the project. These elements require real human time and attention and can’t simply be automated or multiplied without losing their quality.
Together, paid programmes and project support allow Ecolinguist to function as a complete ecosystem.

💸 What It Actually Costs to Keep This Going

These tools aren’t glamorous — but they’re what make the Academy work. They allow me to create high-quality materials, host live programs, support learners, and stay legally compliant across borders.
